July AMVs Worth Your Time: GOLD

This month I had a tougher time finding really good AMVs. Last month I picked 25 different ones, but I quickly narrowed down to under 20. This might be due to some of these being more recent creations, and mostly from the 2013 Japan Expo. Nevertheless, these are all amazing creations, and I hope you enjoy!

Devotion – Kami

Anime: Hyouka +

Song: In Fear and in Faith – Last Man Stranded

At first I thought this would be another Hyouka anime since it edits itself. However, Kami decided to make the AMV into a story using a bunch of different anime. The characters from the other anime blend pretty well although you can tell which anime the look alike characters are from. I didn’t really expect to see the same quality of editing as Our Tapes however, and I think it was interesting to see well picked scenes instead of editing. We follow Oreki as he loses Eri, and struggles with the emotion trauma that follows.

Greenpeace – archivist

Anime: Animatrix, Aoi Bungaku serie, Balder gates exe revolution, Bokurano, Bleach, Blood+, Cowboy beebop, Darker then black, Earth girl Arjuna, Ergo proxy, Eureka 7, Fullmetal alchimist, Genuis Party, Higashi no eden, Kanon, Kita e~Diamond dust drops~, Macross frontier Madlax, Mushishi, Mononoke hime, Mouryou no Hako, Munto, Nana, Noien, Rebuild of Evangelion, Saikano, Shangri-la, Seirei no Moribito, Jyu Oh Sei
Song: Michael Jackson – Earth Song, Howard Shore feat Liv Tyler – The Houses of Healing
Awards: 4 место в общем зачете и Лучшее использование нескольких исходников на конкурсе AMVNews: Big Contest 2010

A beautiful, yet disturbing AMV about the destruction of the world. The AMV transitions well with the song, and paints a very frightening story about the destruction of the environment, and a possible third world war. However, it was a nice touch to place the second song at the end to show the world rebuilding itself. Amazing editing, song selection, and story.

Distortion – Imrage

Anime: Afro Samurai, Champloo, FMA, Kenshin, Nisemonogatari, Psychopass, Shingeki no Kyoujin +

Song: Jack Conte – Daft Punk vs Skrillex Remix

The last two were a very serious, and told a story. However, this one is just for the action filled fun! Tons of fun hack & slash scenes fill up this AMV. Imrage nails a really good introduction to pump you up for the insanity to come. At the same time there are plenty of interesting transition scenes all of which go along great with the music. The authors own style comes across pretty well in this AMV, and has a good balance of action. I find that sometimes people focus on placing action scenes that the AMV becomes overwhelming.

RoCk’NRollaZ – Creed & Dn@

Anime: Black Dynamite, Durarara!, Naruto Shippuuden, FLCL, Michiko to Hatchin, Samurai Champloo, K-Project, Baccano!, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Persona 4, Soul Eater, Code Breaker, One Piece, Basquash, Lucky Star, Clannad After Story, Kore wa Zombie desuka?, Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai, Soredemo Machi Wa Mawatteiru, Beck, Macross 7, Panty & Stocking, Beelzebub, Great  Teacher Onizuka, K-On!, Detroit Metal City, Cromatie High School, Bleach, Tengen Toppa Gurrel-Lagann, Angel Beats!
Music: DJ Shmolli – Rock of Ages
Awards: 1 место на Japan Expo 2013

This AMV uses so many anime, but manages to to flawlessly transition between them to follow the song well. In my opinion the song has quite a few different transitions such as 2:30 and 1:30. I think authors who pick songs with distinct transitions, and manage to still follow the song well makes the majority of my favorite AMVs. This one also is a ton of fun to just watch and listen along to.
